On January 5th, 2009.. this is what I said I would do, In 2009, and this is how I did
I wanted to... and how I did ...
Be a good student:I was a fairly good student. I really improved in the Spring 2009 semester, compared to the crazy, annoying Fall 2008 semester. But, Fall 2009 was also an annoying, hectic semester, mostly because I didn't really have enough time on the computer to really do my homework. SO the plan to fix that this upcoming year is to buy a laptop.
Graduate with my Associates of Arts in Social Work: didn't happen. :( But, I still made a lot of progress towards my degree. I just was unable to take all of the general classes, with my work schedule, so yeah.
Volunteer MUCH more: this also didn't happen as much. Sadness. But this will be a continuous goal!
Find a super great job: THIS just barely happened. I think. I hope. I pray. See the post from a few days ago, here: My Bday present from Lina, to read what I'm talking about.
Find an awesome resume-building Internship: I did the United Way internship. I need something else though, that one didn't really do much for me.
Eat healthier: THIS I definitely accomplished! HELL yes! I have lost about 35 pounds since last January, and I totally plan on keeping it up. I haven't had hardly any desserts during the Holidays! How crazy is that?
Plant a yummy Vegetable garden: someday.
Spend more time with Friends: I think I did this okay. But I really want to get together with both my high school friends, and my FHL friends.. along with my Rack friends much more this year.
Save money: hahahaha. Isn't that a funny thing? I planned on getting a "super great job" when I wrote this.. so lets just move this idea to 2010, and move on shall we?
Write letters to old friends (i.e.: the Babcocks): did emails instead. yes. yes.
Start the Bachelor of Arts in Social Work program: This was a little delayed.. but I should start the program in May 2010, and then Gradate with my BA in Social Work, with a minor in French in May 2011. YEAH!
Spend more time with Family: Yahoo. We did this. For sure. With our Vegas vacation with the whole family, and then mine and Ash's trips to both Idaho and Arizona. Ash, my mom and I even went to a concert together, so this is good. good.
Blog more.. hahahaha Just kidding! This was a joke. But I actually didn't accomplish this. I blogged less. Hopefully with my better job, with nights, weekends, and holidays off I can work out to blog at least a little bit more than I have been recently. EH?
So, as you can see. I didn't exactly accomplish everything I planned on. BUT its good, because I had the goals written out, and I had plans for some of them - I should have had plans for all of them - but I think I did pretty well, and it was nice to have them published and out there. I will post my In 2010 goals next week! :)

I've never been to the Nutcracker before. Until last Thursday night! My friend Amanda and I decided to go see Ballet West's The Nutcracker at the Capitol Theatre. I really liked it! Amanda has seen it a million times, and couldn't believe it when I told her I hadn't ever gone to see it. For some reason, I was never in on it when my Grandma took my sister and cousins to go see it. Weird. But it was worth the wait, and I really liked it. Some parts I was like, wait, what are they doing? But I thought it was a beautiful thing. My favorite part was when the lady with the giant dress (who I swear was played by a guy in this production), comes out and then she lifts her dress a few times, and little dancers come scurrying out of it. Its so cute!
Amanda also gave me an awesome birthday present on Thursday too. As always. Thanks Amanda! :)
On the 6th, my "library friends" and I went down to Gateway for our annual Christmas dinner, hangout. We went to California Pizza Kitchen, and then walked around Gateway to see the lights. I love those girls. They are some of my favorite people. And Carmen's kids are getting so big! Jathan talked and talked and talked! It was adorable. They're moving to Pennsylvania, right after Christmas, so this was our last dinner with them, for at least a year. Very sad.. but I'm excited for them and their new adventures. Jathan said more than once, "we're really going to miss you guys." :( We're all going to miss you too!!

As I said in my last post, I have job news! I am no longer working at the Rack. Today was my 2nd day at Mountain Land Rehabilitation, where I work with my friend Lina! Its so amazing, I wanted a different, better, job but I didn't really think much was possible, so I really wasn't trying very hard.. Crazy huh?
It all happened just before Thanksgiving. I was on Gmail, and annoyed that I could never really qualify for Insurance with The Rack, so I posted on my gchat status that I really "needed a job with insurance!!" almost immediately two of my friends replied and started talking to me! One of which was Lina. Who I worked with at the good ol' Library, and who is one of my bestest friends. I couldn't believe it when by the end of the day we were discussing about when I could come in for an Interview with her boss, for a job that paid me %25 more, and gave me benefits, weekends, nights, and holidays off, and a flexible enough schedule where I could still go to school! After Thanksgiving, I interviewed with Lina & her boss, and she called me to offer me the job while I was still driving home from the Interview! I gave my notice at the rack, my last day was Sunday, finished up finals, had my birthday, and started working with Lina yesterday, the 17th. Yay! So yeah.. I'm excited. And couldn't be more thankful for my good friend Lina. :) Talk about a great Birthday / Christmas present, am I right?
This is our life this week. Study, study, sleep, and study some more. We only have to make it until Wednesday, which just happens to be my Birthday. Yay! So this adorable picture will have to suffice as a blog post until then. THEN I have to explain news, and job announcements, and the fact that I am no longer working at The Rack! Hell yes! More to come :)
Today is World Aids Day. It has been TWENTY FIVE , 25! years since HIV/AIDS first reared its ugly head. 25 years. The world of science has brought us very far, people that were once sentenced to death once they were diagnosed with HIV, are now able to live long, normal lives. At least in the modern Western world.
I personally get very angry when I think about how not fair it is for people in underdeveloped countries don't get the same benefits as those in this country. I get very angry when I think about how the pharmaceutical companies raise their prices higher and higher each year, inadvertently causing the deaths each year.
However, there are organizations out there, like the (RED) Campaign, the ONE campaign, and WorldVision, that are able to provide help to those people. Did you know that many people with HIV die of Tuberculosis? TB! A disease that in the United States, barely even exists.
So please, on this World AIDS Day, take a minute to listen to the 2 videos below. Listen to Bono talk about the (RED) campaign, and perhaps make a donation. The really cool thing about (RED) is you can make a donation, through buying merchandise you already want. Like my (RED) campaign Ipod, for example. Click here for more information on The (RED) Campaign: joinred.com, you can also check out the (RED) blog here.
(Bono's message is for the UK.. so he speaks of pence (pennies), and the chemist (the pharmacy).. so don't let that ruin his message).
And Princess Kasune Zulu, of Zambia, urges you to call your Congressional representatives this World AIDS Day. Let them know that AIDS is NOT a political disease, and the world does not have time to play political games. The United States must keep its promise. We all must keep our promise, why were you lucky enough to be born in a well developed country? Why was I? And why wasn't she? I don't understand the answer to why... but I sincerely believe that EVERYONE needs to do their part, to end such calamities. On this, the 21st anniversary of World AIDS Day, let's do our part, and think of how cool it will be, to not have to celebrate the 40th Anniversary: because we won't need it.
PS: Starbucks is also helping out today, so if you get a chance stop by a Starbucks! They're donating 5¢ to the Global Fund to help fight AIDS in Africa for every hand-crafted beverage sold (meaning that it excludes ready-to-drink beverages and Ethos® Water), so basically any coffee or hot chocolate that they MAKE for you will be applicable! Do it!!
