Happy Birthday Sarah!!

>> August 18, 2010

Today is one of my most favoritest people's Birthday.

SARAH BETH WOODMAN HOLMAN

 Halloween Hippies, 1994

Love her; looking at pictures, choosing which one to put on this post made me want to hang out with my Sarah! I am going to have to work on that, fo sho.

Sarah and I were inseparable from about the age of 9 to 13. We were obsessed with 90210 (the original!), making hors d'oeuvres (which we NEVER pronounced correctly! - we basically said "orders"), soupy mac and cheese, and "making time fly." We went to year round school, and during those three weeks of being off track, Sarah would be at my house by 10am, and wouldn't leave until 5:30pm. Somestimes to come back right after she had dinner. I have so many memories with her, this post will not do her justice.

Happy 26th Sarah! Friends Forever.. For Real.

The Earth Laughs in Flowers ~ who doesn't love Emerson?

>> April 20, 2010

Oh man, I want these shoes. Stupid Nordstrom emails. I mean, really? Who has $120 to spend on these super cute Dansko sandals?! Not me.. that's for sure.. but I still want them. Yes, yes I do.

I love that its all summery now in Utah! FINALLY! Except that its supposed to rain tomorrow.. so it was short lived. But rain can be good too, right? I really do like rain, I just feel like that time should be over now. I'm ready for SUMMER.
I think I have some sort of 'spring fever' or something. I just want to be outside, sitting in the warm sun, not at school or work, being productive! Ick!

Yesterday I went walking with my friend Alisha. It was good. We are going to try to do it on a weekly basis, and maybe that will get me motivated to work out again. I still haven't bought a gym membership.. and yeah, first I blamed it on my debit card fiasco with the fabulous Jordan Credit Union, but now its just like.. I'm.. lazy. I might join in May though. Let's make it a May thing, right? I have all of May and most of June off from in-person school (meaning I have online classes that start in May). THAT in itself makes me so excited! I get to work normal hours at work - YES! I will only be working from 9a to 3:30p - so it better not rain too much in May because I am going to Lagoon dammit!

On Sunday Ash, Tim and I went to Lagoon. It was fun! But for some reason we were all totally worn out afterwards, and we left before the park even closed. Must be something in the Water.. Or maybe we just aren't used to being in the warm warm sun after that loooong annoying Winter, who knows. But aren't we cute? I loves them.

Two of my friends are graduating this week and next week. I love that I will always feel academically inferior to Jihyei and Alisha. Just kidding, just kidding. I am proud of them! Jihyei is getting her Law Degree - LAW degree. WOW! and Alisha is getting her Master's in Education.. but somehow, I doubt either one of them is really finished with school. Silly, silly girls. Jihyei is spending her summer in Maryland with her parents, so we all got together last week. I know I don't see her very often, but I'm going to miss her, nonetheless. Maybe a trip to DC is in my future - what a good excuse to see Jihyei and Barack, right? Just say yes. Here's us at Jihyei's house, we had a lot of fun. I look gynormously tall in this picture.. I really am sitting on the edge of the couch. I swear. Blah.

Lindsey, Suzanne, Daija, Jihyei, Alisha, Me

Alisha's graduation is perfect for me, becaaaaaaause its down in Cedar City - southern Utah. So, I get to go on a mini road trip! How cool is that?! I'm excited. Not that there's a TON to do in Cedar City, but its the act of escaping for a couple days that sounds superb. So, next weekend. Me = Mini Vacation.

I'm also going out to Dinner with Ol' Accessories Dept, Rack people tomorrow. I am excited for that too.. yeah, see? How am I supposed to lose weight when all I do is go out to eat? Should probably fix that.. maybe I'll become an avid bowler. Ha, yeah right.

How is YOUR Tuesday?

Friday!

>> February 26, 2010

Doesn't it make you excited for Spring?
I can't wait.

I'm so excited it's Friday, that I decided to use bullets. Fun, right?

  • I have a cold. How un-cool is that? Last Friday I decided that I was going to have a stomach flu.. or something, and as soon as I started to feel normal, I even posted on twitter that I was starting to be okay again.. Then, my dad decided to share his cold. People think about getting sick, and I get sick! Ach!

  • Today is Friday. And that makes me happy, no, not because I get to sleep in tomorrow, I have classes in the morning (where I have a midterm I haven't yet really studied for, oops). But I also get to go out to Dinner with some of my favorite people tonight! At Jason's Deli.. which is awesome, because the food is good. But do you know what the best part is? Complimentary Ice Cream Cones!

  • Tomorrow.. after the midterm that I need to study for.. I am going for Pizza with my High School friends. I'm excited for that too. I hope everyone can come! I'm hoping that it doesn't snow so Suzanne can come.. yes

  • The Olympics are so good. I'm kind of sad that they're almost over. Some of my favorites have been.. Apolo Ohno, for sure! Shaun White. Lindsey Vonn. Joannie Rochette, that won the bronze medal last night. That was so touching, I felt so bad for her, but I think its awesome the way the whole world pulled behind her and really supported her after her mother's death. So hard.

  • And the Canadian girls Hockey team. I know they beat us so I should be mad at them. But how cool is it that everyone in the stands sings along to Oh Canada?! We don't do that... and they've won the gold like that, three times. three times! in a row! Talk about some major girl power.

  • The Healthcare Summit: all I have to say is wow. It was historical, but I don't know that it got us anywhere.. can we make it a weekly thing for a few weeks? And that exchange between Obama & McCain "we're not campaigning anymore, John" wow. (quote may not be exact, don't hate me)

  • I'm also back on Twitter. Blame Lina Buchanan for that. Silly, silly Lina.. was all excited when she joined Twitter a few weeks ago, and I was all "I did that for awhile, but got sick of it" and then I decided to log back in and see what was going on. Welll.. that was weeks ago, and I'm still addicted. And I've met so many new friends, and have really decided that I want to join some of the weekly chat things that they do. Yeah.. I like it. Again! So check me out @nicoleeelkington, if you want have a tweeterati part-ay.

Yay for Friday! What are you doing this weekend?

Dinner with the Girls, and Carmen's Farewell

>> December 21, 2009

Lina & Me

Me, Heather, and Lina

On the 6th, my "library friends" and I went down to Gateway for our annual Christmas dinner, hangout. We went to California Pizza Kitchen, and then walked around Gateway to see the lights. I love those girls. They are some of my favorite people. And Carmen's kids are getting so big! Jathan talked and talked and talked! It was adorable. They're moving to Pennsylvania, right after Christmas, so this was our last dinner with them, for at least a year. Very sad.. but I'm excited for them and their new adventures. Jathan said more than once, "we're really going to miss you guys." :( We're all going to miss you too!!

Grown Ups and Experiences

>> July 16, 2009

Life is kind of a strange thing. I mean.. I was told recently that my friend, (who I thought was a conservative religious girl), has a "favorite swear word": shit. Not that I don't swear.. and that I don't appreciate the word shit. Because seriously, when you say "I have a lot of crap to do" it just doesn't take on the same dramatic effect that "I have a lot of SHIT to do" does.

What's interesting is that I found it surprising. But why can't she have a favorite swear word? Because in High School way back when none of us really swore? And we were all good Seminary (see Mormon dictionary ;) ) goers, and everything? She even said later, "was it even really realistic for us to think none of us would ever swear?" So, as I said Life is strange. I mean, I myself, worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (aka: Mormon) Church for 3 years. Three years! That means I prayed in meetings, at work , that I had to give short talks, and spiritual thoughts, at work , we even sang hymns at work . And do I swear?! Hell yes, you better believe it! And.. do I attend church? Uh, that'd be a negative.

Its just weird the way things change, and the way they stay the same. We still make fun of each other, and laugh too loud.. or when we go to our friend's shower of mixed groups of people, where we don't know everyone, do we make an entrance? Of course we do!

The funny thing is, I think its the fact that we have grown up. We're adults now, not teenagers trying to please.. whoever we were trying to please. There were four of us tonight, Half of us never attend church anymore, and out of the other remaining half, one goes to church every few months, and the other attends church weekly but also has a favorite swear word. It was interesting, someone brought up a few sticky topics, and it almost felt like I was getting to know these old friends over again. These are people I have known for at least 14 years. But, since we don't see each other very often, and have now had our own life experiences, we have different points of view. As one friend said, we discussed what you're not supposed to : Gay Marriage issues, Abortion, Religion, Politics, etc.. and we really didn't necessarily agree, but its not like I was the lone liberal, and they were the hard right conservatives. It was nice. I think sometimes, all of us, including me, tend to put each other in "boxes" of liberal, conservative, religious or not, democrat or republican, and really its our lives and our experiences that make us who we really are.. and we really didn't know who or what that is in middle school.

Side note: I had frogurt tonight for the first time, after hearing TONS of hype about it, mostly from Ms. Bethany Mosley, and I love it!
