What I wish the Election map will look like in 5 days..
But I can settle for CNN's latest prediction. With Obama winning 291 Electoral votes to John McCain's 163.
Even if McCain was to win the rest of the undecided states - the yellow ones, he still wouldn't have enough electoral votes to win the presidency. That makes me giddy.
But, the control is out of my hands. I already pledged my support for Obama and voted this last Tuesday. I think it's so awesome that we can vote early. I had to, since I'm working at the Polls on Election Day (all freakin day.. 17 hours.. ), but I still think it is really cool, that if you have other things you have to do on Election Day, you can still have your vote count. And the lines were so much shorter! So, I would recommend it. :) But no matter what you do.. whoever you vote for, and whatever you think. PLEASE VOTE. And I promise on November 6th, I will stop talking about the election.. and voting.. and yaddah yaddah. November 5th will either be a super Celebratory day.. or an awful day from hell. Either way, I'm sure I will write about it.
Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
Please avoid spoilers!
My teaser is from the one book that I am reading right now that is for fun. Everything else I am reading is for school, which doesn't necessarily make them BAD books, because it doesn't, it just makes them required, and I don't like being told what to do. That's for sure. So anyway, my teaser is from The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. My teaser is from page 111.
She saw it all so clearly. Her starving mother, her missing father. Kommunisten. Her dead brother. "And now we say goodbye to this trash, this poison."
And... another fun quote from the book, that is narrated by Death:
"To me, war is like the new boss who expects the impossible, You see? Even death has a heart."
The Teaser Tuesday idea I've seen on a few blogs, however I first saw it on this blog: Reading Adventures. Check it out. The writer is hilarious. Especially for anyone that likes books. Read more...
I got this tag idea from my friend Amanda, and I thought I would do it too. You go to your pictures, pick your fourth folder, and then post the fourth picture in the folder here.
This is me and Tim playing around in the car on our way to Football a few weeks ago.
I had to edit the rules a little, by using my facebook photos. I don't have folders on my computer of different pictures quite like that. But it's still fun!
I stole this from my friend Whitney. It seemed like fun. Thanks Whitney! Put your iPod or MP3 Player on Shuffle, and for each question, put the title of the song that comes up.
Anyone can do this.. but I am going to tag: Amanda, Ashley, Kim & Lina!

I usually like October. And this October has really been a pretty good month, so far. And we still have Halloween left! And the entire point of my job: the Book Festival. I love the crispness of the fall air, and the colors of the Leaves. I have practically become addicted to taking pictures of the different colors. I just love it!
I've also had some fun with friends and family this month. I love hanging out with my brother and sister, and the random fun we have. This last weekend, we played Clue over and over again and it was a lot of fun. We even have fun watching the Presidential debates together. I love watching things like that with my brother and sister, and especially lately. My brother is at a point where he wants to LEARN EVERYTHING and I love it. I never get sick of answering his questions, and this month has been full of them. "Wait, what's the DOW? and, why is it dropping?"
This month, I also went to dinner with Heather and Kim. I wish I had brought my camera! I had planned on it, and somehow the camera didn't make it to Paradise Cafe with me! I love those girls. It's so great to have friends you can talk to about just about anything! We talked for hours about politics and our love for Barack Obama, but mostly our hatred for Sarah Palin. We talked about our TV addictions, and the beauty of DVR (ok, well I talked about DVR. hehe). We talked about our old work, and how each of us has definitely grown out of the people we were when we worked at the Library. Sometimes I am still surprised that after leaving the Library 2 1/2 years ago I still have strong friendships with some of my favorite people from that place. It's awesome and I love it!
School has been kind of hard, I feel like I have to try SUPER hard on my Grant Writing class. Which, frankly, isn't something I've always had to do. I hate when I have to try to learn things! haha. But in reality, it will be a really good asset for me, to know how grant writing works, and be able to apply for them. I've seen how much drama a grant application can cause at a nonprofit.
Work has been fun. I have done things that I have never done before. Like learning how to do public relations, writing press releases, organizing signs for a big event, designing and organizing book marks, postcards, etc for the event and making sure they all get to production on time - with everything spelled correctly, and no sponsors missing. I have really enjoyed it. I will be glad when it's here, this Saturday, and we can focus on "festival wrap up." However, I don't really have a plan for after this job. So I need some time to find a new job! I've been applying, so hopefully something will work out, and I will be able to work it with my class schedule for next semester.
A woman in the Development department at my work has asked me to work part time, from home, just kind of catching them up in their data entry, after the book festival is over. It won't make me rich, but it should be a good experience, more experience with a different facet of a nonprofit can't be a bad thing right? Plus, it will be a little extra money.
I am also starting a new 8-week volunteer assignment on Thursday, with the International Rescue Committee (the IRC) and I am excited! A little nervous, because it is working with kids from different countries, and we work with them, tutor them, etc. I think it will be a lot of fun, I just hope I can understand the child I am placed with, and he or she can understand me and that I start a new friendship.
Well, that's my October so far. How was yours?
Last thing: I am fund raising for UNICEF again this year. If you'd like to donate to my Halloween fund raising effort click here. Make Halloween Count. :)
Haha, one more thing... I know that anyone that even kind of knows me knows that I believe in Obama, and I love him and support him very very much. I love that Colin Powell has endorsed him (see video below). However, I do have to say, no matter what EVERYONE should Vote! It's despicable to me that anyone would not use their voice. I used to have a sign in my Apartment that said: "Don't Vote? Don't Bitch!" and I firmly believe that.
Let us hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away, and that in some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
Racism. It's such an odd concept to me, and it seems as if it has been happening in one form or another since the beginning of time. I am reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, and I really like it. However, it always makes me a little sad when I hear about the racism and prejudice that happened in Nazi Germany. Not only are there the horrors of the Holocaust genocide and the awfulness of it all; but the racism in general, before it went that far. The stars of David that were placed on the Jewish German's shops, clothes and houses. Like because there was a star of David, like just because they were a little different, this made it okay to treat them so terribly.
How fortunate for leaders that men do not think. ~ Adolf Hitler
Unfortunately, the United States hasn't escaped the scar of Racism. Because this great country has, as well. I never understand it, I guess I never will. But I am excited that we have a black man running for President - as an official party nominee, and one that 19 days before the Election, he is leading in the polls. Whether Barack Obama wins the Election and becomes the first African-American President of the United States, or not, he will have made history this year. And I hope, that if (in that very slim chance) he loses the Election, I hope that the next African-American man or woman, or when there is a Latino, American-Indian, Jew, Asian or an Arab runs for president there won't be people saying "Are we ready?". Shouldn't the poll numbers speak for themselves??
In the past 2 years I have often wondered, if there wasn't access to TV or internet, and no one knew that Barack Obama was African-American, and all you could listen to was him speak, or him debate on the Radio, and only hear the issues.. Would that change anything? The only tired I was, was tired of giving in. ~ Rosa Parks (on refusing to give up her seat on the bus to a white man) The following video is of Donna Brazile, a Democratic strategist and Campaign Manager for the 2000 Al Gore campaign. If she looks familiar, that's because she's also a CNN contributor and a Democratic Super Delegate. What she says is interesting, it breaks my heart that not too long ago, she really was told to go to the back of the bus.
BRRR! Someone needs to tell the Utah Weather officials that Winter doesn't technically start until December 21st! I am so cold. And I'm a whiner, but I hate winter. I hate it. Hate it. Hate it. And I didn't sleep very well, because of another psycho dream, which ended with me flinging my hand across the room, to get the bee off of me (who knows.. ).. this reaction to my psycho dream world left the aisle between my sister's and my beds wet and cold (I knocked over my water glass) and me freaking out to find my phone, and make sure it wasn't taking a bath. THEN I look outside and see this!
So I decided to snuggle up at the computer desk and see what more fortunate people were doing today, in places not devastated by WINTER; and I found two interesting travel blogs, and I thought I would share. One is in Turkey: TurkiyeHoliday and the other is in Austria (and other places in Europe): Rachel's Austrian Adventures.
John Lennon, born John Winston Lennon on October 9, 1940, in Liverpool, England. And grew up to be apart of the biggest rock band to ever hit the world: The Beatles. Grew up to be a man that would be very influential, and controversial, but never quiet with his opinions. I love him for those opinions and for his music.
Awesome Quotes: I'm not going to change the way I look or the way I feel to conform to anything. I've always been a freak. So I've been a freak all my life and I have to live with that, you know. I'm one of those people. ~ John Lennon
The thing the sixties did was to show us the possibilities and the responsibility that we all had. It wasn't the answer. It just gave us a glimpse of the possibility. ~ John Lennon
You don't need anybody to tell you who you are or what you are. You are what you are! ~ John Lennon
If everyone demanded peace instead of another television set, then there'd be peace. ~ John Lennon
DARFUR NOW Preview for the Documentary, Darfur Now:
This makes me so sad. It's crazy how at the beginning he says, "this is like Nazi Germany." I thought after Hitler's Germany, and the Holocaust we said never again? What happened to Never Again?
Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
~ Martin Luther King Jr.
I stole this video from my friend Kim, who cares just as much as I do about Darfur. And I am stealing it because I want everyone to know! I don't understand how people can be indifferent and do nothing.
At least Joe Biden knows what he's talking about when it comes to Darfur, this is what he said in the Vice President Debate about Darfur on Thursday. (see Question's transcript here)
I don’t have the stomach for genocide when it comes to Darfur. We can now impose a no-fly zone. It’s within our capacity. We can lead NATO if we’re willing to take a hard stand. We can, I’ve been in those camps in Chad. I’ve seen the suffering, thousands and tens of thousands have died and are dying. We should rally the world to act and demonstrate it by our own movement to provide the helicopters to get the 21,000 forces of the African Union in there now to stop this genocide. ~ Joe Biden VP Debate, October 2, 2008
Sigh.. and I thought that Sarah Palin's answer in the debate, was the one and only thing I actually could agree with her on. Until I found this article, from SaveDarfur.org. Guess not. Governor Palin had claimed that she was all-for the divestment bill that failed in Alaska, earlier this spring, which would have divested holdings from Sudan in the Alaskan budget. However this article from the Washington Post, also explains that the Palin administration in Alaska was actually against the efforts, not for them; until it was too late for the Legislation to pass. Sounds familiar to thatBridge to Nowhere...
The Alaska Permanent Fund currently holds $22 million in Sudan-linked investments, according to the non-profit Sudan Divestment Task Force. Divestment advocates say the fund does not need an act of the state legislature to divest itself of those holdings. (from here)
China is the biggest contributor to Sudan's economy, fueling the war with their thirst for Sudanese oil. Yet another reason to hate the Chinese.. What happened to the world's moral conscience?
I was in my bathroom, getting ready to goto bed. Doing the regular things, and I was about to take my contacts out. Somehow, instead of taking my contact out of my eye, I took out one of my front TEETH.
My sister, who was also getting ready for bed, said "What are you doing?" I said, "I got confused!"
I had put my tooth into my contact case.. so Ashley then says, "Can you put it back in?"
So I tried. I shoved it back into my gums, it really hurt! It seemed to work, but when I pushed my tongue up against my teeth (who knows why!), my tooth AND MY GUMS fell into my mouth. Then I removed my gums from my mouth, with my one tooth and no blood... and went to tell my mom.
My mom's like "Why did you do that?" in a you're-stupid look. And again, the only explanation I had was, "I got confused!"
My dream ended with me being totally scared and annoyed because I don't have Dental insurance. I'm not really sure what this dream is supposed to mean. Any ideas??
