My Teaser for this Tuesday comes from a book that I am reading for my literature class, Cry The Beloved Country. It is about life in South Africa, before apartheid .. but when the country was just on the cusp of it. It's very interesting, because the author, Alan Paton , lays out reasons for the tribal issues, and the problems that are decaying the society of the country. After apartheid became a reality, his reasons showed even greater meaning. I am learning a lot from this book, and I would really recommend it. Anyway, here's the teaser.
From page 105:
Cry for the broken tribe, for the law and the custom that is gone. Aye, and cry
aloud for hte man who is dead, for the woman and child bereaved. Cry, The
beloved country, these things are not yet at an end. The sun pours down on the
Earth, on the lovely land that man cannot enjoy. He knows only the fear of his
heart.
And, one of my favorites from the book, on page 140:
Fear is a journey, a terrible journey, but sorrow is at least an arriving.
