And when an artist puts too much of himself into it - that's where problems begin. That's why Basil (was it basil - it's been a year or so since I've read it) said he'd give the picture to Dorian and not display it. The painting showed his own soul as much as Dorian's.

I don't necessarily agree that artists need to remove themselves from their work but when viewing these photographs I can't help but wish the man behind the project had removed himself from it.

Why did he choose to portray each charcter in those lights? All of them had unrealistic faces - why was it BELLE who was having plastic surgery? She was a very down-to-earth girl who loved BOOKS more than looks. She was also codependent (arguably) and because she was intent on loving a beastly man despite his being beastly I'd say it more likely that she would have ended up in an abusive relationship where she tried to hide her sorrows in either writing novels or reading. Maybe a picture of her with a domestic violence bruise would have been more appropriate.

I am only giving one example - I could give a break down on the others. But what it seems to me is that this "artist" decided to focus more on LOOKS (which is kind of what he's trying to poke fun at right? I mean he's poking fun at the perfect fairytale life which includes a handsome man and a beautiful girl) instead of focusing on personality and the strong character traits that each of these disney princesses portrays.

Snow White was heavenly with animals and could probably make a mean batch of cookies. Cinderella had enormous amounts of patience but also very little backbone ... I think the project is intriguing as an idea but I did not connect with his representations. I think it was a statement of HIS views and may be lacking in artistic merit.

WOW this was a long essay like comment. I hope that's ok! I love when people share opinions on my blog - hope you do too.K.Petehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12233200394154630870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1531185441093244576.post-18639124669678961302009-06-17T20:34:59.671-06:002009-06-17T20:34:59.671-06:00These are awesome!!
